Series Order in XY Scatter Plot

Hi All,

I have a xy-scatter plot that has 4 different series of x, y data.
The 4 series, two series (1 and 2) use the primary axis and two series (3 and 4) use the secondary axis because of range differences in the y data. Series 1 and 3 are data points from an experiment. Series 2 and 4 are calculated curves and plotted as smooth lines Right now the calculated curves are behind the data points and can't see the lines.

I can not sort the plot order of the series. I would like the series to be plotted Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 then Series 4. Excel 2010 does the plot order as Series 2, Series 4, Series 1 then Series 3. It does not matter what order I put the order in using Excel Help:

Change the plotting order of data series in a chart
1.Click the chart for which you want to change the plotting order of data series.
This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.

1.On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data.


1.In the Select Data Source dialog box, in the Legend Entries (Series) box, click the data series for which you want to change the order.
2.Click Move Up or Move Down to move the data series to the position that you want.


THIS DOES NOT DO ANYTHING.
I never had an issue in Excel 2003
Does anyone know how to resolve this?


Here is a funny/weird thing: When I copy the above chart from Excel and paste it in a Power Point Presentation the calculated line for the data represented with squares appear above the data the way I would like it to be display.

Does anyone know how the sort order works in Excel 2010?

Markers will appear above lines.

Trendlines will appear above markers and lines.

Can you post actual example files of your 2003 version and powerpoint example.

In my test xl2010 acts the same as xl2003 and copying to powerpoint has no affect.

Also,

If I change the lines into markers there is still no sort order between the series. Any other suggestions?

Are you sure those lines are not Trend Lines, rather than values on the worksheet? If they were trend lines they would appear above the markers.

They were calculated values from the worksheet fitting an errorfunction completment (EFRC) function.

I probably will have to use some other software to do the task? Do you have any recommendations

I don't use other software for charting so sorry no.

Still think it would help if you posted actual workbook example of one of these charts that was correct, so wwe can see how it was constructed.

You can either upload a data set (spreadsheet or tab-delimited text) or you can cut and paste tab-delimited data into the cut and paste area (in the upload data page). You must register for an account (it's free) in order to get to the upload portion of the tool. You can also gain access to numerous public-available data (such as data.gov).

As the name implies, Visualize Free is free to use. Any dataset you upload will be private only to you - so you don't have to worry about other users gaining access to your data.

Thanks Everyone for your suggestions and help.
I was able to do what I want in Excel by changing the x-y scatter data from just lines to markers and lines. Then I made the markers as small as possible and made the lines thick.
