    Unequal intervals in x-axis values

    Hi
    I have a line chart in Excel 2010 that has unequal intervals between the values on the x-axis: 0, 9, 21, 33, 45, 57, 69, 81.

However, they are displayed as equal distant in the chart. Is there a way to represent the differences between these values in a line chart?

    Hello Paul
Try using an XY scatter it will represent the values on the x-axis. A line graph just sees them as categories equally spaced.

    Hi DBY
I am using Powerpivot and a pivot table as the data source for this chart and I just tried your option above and got an error for "You cannot use a XY(scatter) chart type ... with a chart that has been created from PivotTable data. Please select a different chart type."

We have a data refresh process in place that uses Powerpivot and pivot tables, so I don't want to change this. Are there other options for pivot tables?

I've not used Powerpivot so I can't help with that but with a pivot table you can manually select the data from it for an XY Scatter line chart. The Chart should refresh with the pivot.

if you have a maximum value, perhaps you can create an additional table with the numbers from 0 to that maximum and then link that to your current table field. if you use the new field as the category axis and set the pivot to display row items with no data you should end up with the effect you want

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to
