Pivot Table calculated field to count if issue "needs follow up"

I am trying to add a calculated field into a pivot table on sheet 2 that will count the number of 'Issue' (s) that have the criteria "NEEDS FOLLOW UP"
when I use the formula below excel says, "This formula contains an error"
    =COUNTIF(ISSUE,"NEEDS FOLLOW UP")
I tried the formula below in the pivot table source data sheet "SERVICE REQUEST" in cell J1 and it works
    =COUNTIF(C:C,"NEEDS FOLLOW UP")
I realize i could add a column in the source data to put a 1 if it "needs follow up" and a 0 if it is anything else, but I do not want to add to the source data.
Is there a way to do this in a calculated field or is it not possible?

If that's all you want of the pivot table, drag the ISSUE field to the Report Filter area and filter it to NEEDS FOLLOW UP. Then drag the ISSUE field to the values area and the Agents field to the Row Labels area.
Is that what you were after?

Thank you for your reply. I need to see how many issues fell under various criteria for each agent. One of the criteria was needs follow up. If that were the only one, then your solution would work. Thank you again for your help.

OK. See if this is what you want. You can use the Column Label filter and/or the Row Label filter as required.
