    Unhappy IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP with text/symbol search

What I am trying to do:
Use a conditional formatting formula in cell "D6" on sheet "Available Gear" to find DEVICE #5 (TIK-5 #5) in column 8 of the the "DATA" sheet and white it out in cell "D6" on sheet "Available Gear" if found. I need to have the space and # symbol.

    What I have:
Data sheet automatically pulls information from 4 different sheets and places it in a list. This formula on two other sheets pulls that information and sorts it by number:

I have tried to use the same formula to do conditional formatting looking for "TIK-5 #5" in the 8th column on the data page. However because of the space and the # symbol it errors out. I tried quotes and it returns a 0 all the time. I tried just the VLOOKUP portion of it but it still provides no positive results when tested.

    Anyone have any better ideas?

    Re: IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP with text/symbol search

Got it figured out. Here is what I did:

Made two extra columns on my data spreadsheet. Column A I listed all the equipment that could be used. Column B got this formula:

This looked up the referenced piece of gear in H2:H53 and if it was there it whited it out. If it wasn't in that column it then copied the same equipment text from Column A into the cell.

On the available gear tab however, it does almost the same formula.

That is used for a few different conditional formatting equations. So I got it to do what I want!
