Returning the max number as a word

I am looking for a formula that will return the MAX Number from the same cell across multiple worksheets as the text written in a different cell across multiple worksheets.

I coach HS Basketball and we use a rating system to grade our player's game performance. I am hoping that I can use the MAX formula to find the player's highest scoring game throughout the season and then add to that formula to return that score with the name of the team we played in that game.

In the example attached, I need to find highest point total per player from all the games we have played. JR's most points scored came in our Seven Lakes game. Currently I am using =MAX('SEVEN LAKES:CY-FAIR'!B3) to find the highest points from the three games. With that information, I now want the formula to take the contents of A1 and display that instead of "28".

If the high score is on this page, then display this cell. Is this possible?

I included a mock-up with no formulas to help clarify what I am asking for. I also included the real plus minus, with some date included.

    Thanks for your time!

    Re: Returning Numbers as Text

Your sample workbook does not contain any differentiating data. A sample workbook should have a usable set of data to test on, more than none, less than 100% full.

Your sample workbook does not indicate where you're trying to automate this "high score" formula. A sample workbook should have a good set of manually mocked up results where you demonstrate the expected results from the sample data. Point those cells out specifically, we've never seen your workbook before.

    Thanks.

    Re: Returning Numbers as Text

I re-attached the spreadsheet to the original post and included some sample data. Sorry JB.

I provided point totals for two players, JR and Malik, for three games (Cy-Ranch, Magnolia 1 and Magnolia 2). At the bottom of each game worksheet is a "total points" table. I created this to help with the MAX function on the "Record Board" worksheet. Every game worksheet "Cy-Ranch to State 2" is set up exactly the same with the exact same formulas in place.

Here's my thinking. The formula would search through every game to find the highest point total for the specific player (like the formula I have set up in the "Game" table on the "Record Board" worksheet) and return that number. The formula would then take that number, recognize which worksheet it is on and translate it into the worksheet name. It could also translate the number into the contents of Cell A1, which contains the game name.

Hope this clears it it. Thanks for the quick response!

Uploaded a mock-up sheet and edited my first post to fix some clarity issues. Thanks for your time. Hope you can help!

I wouldn't try to do this with formulas. I would use VBA. And this is not a trivial VBA exercise, either. This is the kind of complexity I would normally charge for, a lot of work and feedback, etc.
