Rand for a month of weather changes

I have built a worksheet for a calendar month that can have 1 of 4 weather conditions, snow, cloudy, sunny or rain. I put the =Rand() in column B, and I have used the IF and OR function in Column C to write the formula but it doesn't seem to work when I filter it down the entire 31 days and hit PF9, the weather condition doesn't show. If someone can assist me where I might have missed something in the formula I would appreciate it. I have attached the problem (see Exercise 15-4) tab.

We are not inclined to do your homework for you. A couple of things I would look at:

    1) All of your references are relative references. I would suggest a little research on using relative and absolute references in formulas and adapting your formulas accordingly

    2) I notice that all of your "conditionals" in your IF functions are "exactly equal to", which is not very likely to ever occur. I think you need to adjust your lookup table and your lookup logic to better match the problem statement.

Mr. Shorty, I took your advice, added the $for absolute and also < and it worked.

I'm thinking a cumulative sum of the probabilities would be needed to be able to use a single < . You are obviously getting results but are you getting the correct results?

Well I am getting answers in most of the cells when I hit f9 but some are saying #NAME? and I was just trying to figure out why. I was also seeing if I could use the VLOOKUP but that is a bit harder.

VLOOKUP is the way to go. If you use VLOOKUP, don't forget to lock the lookup range. Just make lots of testing and you will figure it out.
