Pulling a range from a larger group

We have a large list that we want to brake out and send to several different groups. I know I can sort the list by last name and them parse it out manually, but is there a way to do it with a formula? Meaning, I would to pull a subset list that is A-L, then M-S and lastly T-Z. Is there a formula that lets you select a range to select?

You could use VLookup to determine the range.

After that you could filter on that range.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.
