Return Cell value using match function with time.

    Hi All,

I'm attempting to extract a cell number out of a row of time values.

I've tried using the match function but that keeps retuning N/A.

Is there a better function to use or some special way to use time with the match function?

    Cheers, Steve.

If you are getting #N/A this implies that you are looking for an exact match and can't find one. This action is controlled by the third parameter of the MATCH function, and you can omit it or set it to TRUE to change the action to look for an approximate match (i.e. the largest match which is equal to or less than the sought value) - for this to work, though, your data needs to be sorted.

It might help us further if you attach a sample workbook - the FAQ describes how to.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Return Cell value using match function with time.

    Sorry Guys,

I think I've found a solution to myself: I converted my time I wanted to match using =text("hh:mm:ss") and that now returns the result I wanted.

    Thanks for your help anyway.

Okay, well thanks for feeding back - perhaps you can select Thread Tools from the menu above your first post and mark this thread as SOLVED if you think it has been.

Also, thanks for the rep - times are stored as fractions of a 24-hour day, and so rounding errors can make it difficult to get exact matches, so converting them to text strings will improve things.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
