Return text from a reference cell

    Hi all,

Thank you in advance for helping. I've tried to search the internet and Excel Forum for help on my problem but I cannot seem to find the solution so hopefully someone can provide me with expert advice here.

I have two worksheets in Excel 2007. In worksheet 1 I have a cell that combines the information from many cells so the output is for example " O.QA.SAL.200.P.1013". Now in worksheet 2 I want to link to the output in worksheet 1 but I keep getting the error "VALUE!".

    Hopefully someone can help me.

Want to post an example file.

How are you linking to the other tab. You shouldn't be getting the value error unless you are performing an operation, if you are just saying "=sheet1!A1" inside Sheet 2 there shouldn't be an error. So a sample file would help to see what is causing this for you.

Hi ELeGault. I have attached an example file.

    EXAMPLE FILE Excel Forum.xlsx

The red cell in sheet "Cost Estimation sheet" is the one I would like to put in a link to cell B42 (also highlighted red) in tab "New AFE".

I don't see a value error in the sheet currently... Are you typing ='New AFE'!B42 in that red cell in Cost Estimation Sheet. When linking to a merged cell make sure you are only referencing the first column in the sheet. maybe recreate the error first as I don't see a Value error -

Re: Return text from a reference cell

    Hi again,

Ok that was strange. Now it is working here as well. I think the issue was because I hadn't saved the file I was working from. I had opened it from an email....maybe?

Anyways it is working now. Thanks.
