New user, need help connecting connecting and "adding up" text cells and number cells

I tried searching for a solution for quite some time. I guess I might not now what to actually search for.
Im a pretty new excel user, so please use language a beginner can understand

I have a list of buyers and what they paid ex:

B2: bob C2: 100$
B3: Mike C3: 50$
B4: sandy C4: 80$
B5: Bob C5: 60$

I want to make a top 5 over the buyers that uses the most money in my business and have the total amount used for each buyer as well.

So that my top 5 list would be fx.

1. Bob 160$
2. Sandy 80$
3. Mike 50$
and so on

So like "everytime it says "bob" in a cell, the cell on the right gets added to bobs total"

I dont even know if its possible. I tried to search for a solution for 2 hours, didnt get anything. I will take a work-around as well.

Almost exactly what i wanted.

I'd like it if the "top 5" part had the "totals" number next to it

like so:
A B C
1 Andy 80
2 Bob 70
3 Sam 35
4 Mary 30
5 Carl 25

and then obviously have it update automatically.

However, if it cant be done or you dont wanna bother, the one you made is already great, and i am very grateful.

The TOP 5 it's updating automatically, but you'll have to update manually the totals list, whenever you add new names in your main list...that is unless you don't want to use a Pivot table.
I have also put the totals near the top5 names.

i made some updates on the formulas in the file, if you want to check.
If you want to use a pivot table, you can achieve your result directly in the pivot.

I am as i said pretty new to excel. I dont actually know what a pivot table is or what it does haha.
What you have made here looks pretty much like exactly what i wanted. I will test it and get back tomorrow, Thanks for your help man

Alright, the whole thing works perfectly. However i've run into a new "problem" i need to put multiple ranges in your IF formulas. Seperating the different ranges with commas gives me an error and doesn't seem to work.
