Complex Counting Function?

Hi, I am a bit stumped at how to count the number of occurrences of a word. The =countIF function sort of does it but not completely. Ill give 2 example tables below

ITEM Number

Flat Panel TV 2
Wall Bracket 1
TV Connection 1

ITEM Number

Flat Panel TV 3
Wall Bracket 1
TV Connection 1

Ok so what i would like to do is count the total number of Flat panel TVs I have. Basically what we are doing is installing new tvs in a number of rooms. In the spreadsheet there is a different table per room with different numbers of TVs. Id like to be able to tally these all up and have a total TV count.

Assuming Item is in column A and Number is in column B, try this

I'm having another small problem now

The formula doesn't seem to detect different numbers e.g.

50 Inch Flat Panel
42 Inch Flat Panel

So I would have thought i'd do =SUM(B:B,A:A,"*50 Inch Flat Panel*")

For some reason it does not work with the number

Is there another part that i am missing?

Essentially... I was putting 40 inch instead of 42 inch! Bit tired over here.
