    Horizontal Sum Index Match

Good Afternoon! I am having trouble getting the result that I'm hoping for, so I'm coming to the experts.

I am trying a sum index match based on two criteria where the basic data does not have column headers.
In my attached dummy sheet, I am trying to find the Rain Fall % sum for Winter based on the data in Sheet 2 and enter the value into cell D3.
Sheet 2 has the data: the titles are in Column A and the results are in Column B. Winter is repeated a few times, so I'd like to sum all of the rain fall percentages for each season. Hlookup works perfectly, but it only pulls the first value, and I need all of them summed.

Any help you provide will be greatly appreciated!

Try this in D2 and filled down

    =SUMIFS(Sheet2!$B$5:$B$30,Sheet2!$B$1:$B$26,B2,Sheet2!$B$3:$B$28,A2)

    Hi, Jonmo1,

Thank you for your quick response! unfortunately, it's returning "0" for all D2 thru D4 after I fill it down.

    Re: Horizontal Sum Index Match

If you look on Sheet 2, you'll see that there are 0 instances of Blue Underneath Spring
So 0 is the correct ansewr for D2

    Same for the other 2
0 instances of Green underneath Winter
0 instances of Yellow underneath Fall

Unless I've completely misunderstood your goal.

    Re: Horizontal Sum Index Match

    Hi, again,

I'm actually only trying to match up the season and then sum the rainfall %. Color doesn't matter to me. I apologize for the confusion. I think I was trying to over complicate the equation. Now that I understand your equation, I just removed the criteria range for the color, and I got my answer. Thank you so so much! I really appreciate you!
