    Help with forumla

If anyone could please help me with this, I'm not an advanced excel user. I've had classes but can't remember everything that I've learned from them. My problem is that i need to be able to create a formula that will give me a sum by referencing cells in say row 1 but out of a changing number of columns that doesn't exceed column BL but retrieving numbers from row 26 of the same column if the letter in column 1 of that same column equals a certain letter. Kind of like an IF function combined with sum and offset. I have 4 different formulas that will be the same but i need to make them work only if the cells in row 1 equal A, B, C, or D respectively.

    Welcome to the forum.

Can you post a sample indicative of what you are trying to do?

Post a proposed solution with typed numbers if you want and indicate what cells need formulas so we can see EXACTLY what you are trying to do.

    Re: Help with forumla

if it helps i can up load the document I am working on. This is a sheet tracking monthly tonnage which i need to total per crew but the dates each crew works changes every month so i need it to total the crews tonnage which is listed below the crew name. Below the main mass of cells there is a box which shows tonnage totals and beside it in column A has the crew names.Shift Analysis March.xlsx

    Re: Help with forumla

Sorry about the bunching up of words around the file, its the one labeled shift analysis march at the end of my last post.

The formula i need to enter is in the cells from B29:B32. As you can see I've had to individually select the cell number in the first 3 formulas as I've done for the last few months but I was hoping there was a way to reference cells B1:BL1 to see if it equaled "A" and if so sum all cells in row 26 that have "A" for the crew in row 1. There would end up being a total of 16 or 15 cells that would be summed depending on whether you were looking to total the tonnage number for Crew A, B, C, or D.

Thanks so much you dont realize how helpful that was. I am not very familiar with the IF function since I haven't used it much in the past. I appreciate your time and once again thanks for the help!
