I am trying to divide the value in cell k2 by the sum of k2 and l2. I know i can accomplish this by adding them in m2 then dividing k2 by m2 but i would rather do this in one step. Any ideas?

i tried both formulas and i get #VALUE!
Then you have something non-numeric in either K2 and/or L2
Suggest that you post a sample workbook that exhibits the problem
I have uploaded sample of the sheet i am working on. On this the data is now in columns A and B with the formula in C. Thank you for you help.
The numbers in column A all have a trailing non-display character. Use =CODE(RIGHT(A1,1)) to determine what it is.
Either delete that character in each cell or use something like:

You could do a global replace using Alt + 0160

Select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Solved. To undo, select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Unsolved.

Go to the first post
Click edit
Click Go Advanced
Just below the word Title you will see a dropdown with the word No prefix.
Change to Solved
Click Save
