    Calculating the overlapping time intervals

    hey all,

I got stuck in one calculation where I need to calculate the overlapping time interval using simple excel built in functions.

Case: There are 5 machines whose states are defined as active and not active within specified time interval. The task is to calculate which time interval(s) these 5 machines are active and when they are not active. Capture.JPG

Hi and welcome to the forum

Pictures are of little value. Honestly, no one wants to re-type your data to try and solve your issue. Additionally, we would only be guessing at how your data was structured, ie. formulas, formatting, etc.

Please attach a sample file that represents what you have. The structure of your attachment should be the same structure as your actual data. Any proprietary information should be changed.

Include in the attachment any code you're currently using (whether it works or not) and an "After" of what you wish the output to be.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

You should post an actual workbook. The data in a picture cannot be read into a spreadsheet, the only other alternative would be to try to re create your data in a blank worksheet and most likely no one wants to do that.

You haven't stated what each time means. We need that information. Your sample data times are all one second apart which I'm assuming isn't a realistic representation of the data you expect to actually see.
It would be better if revised one line of your data to something more realistic, calculated an answer and put that answer in the sheet where you would expect to see it. This will give us a number to shoot for and also show us how would want the answer presented.
