I need help with summing cells that have the same cell value to the left. In my example, I need all wood quantities summed, all metal quantities summed etc.
Any ideas?

Use SUMIF
=SUMIF(B:F,"Metal",C:G)
You can also use a cell reference instead of the text "Metal"
Life's a spreadsheet, Excel!

I am getting the idea, but when I enter that formula in a cell nothing happens. All cells are formatted as 'General'. When I type the formula, instead of pasting it, I get 'This formula contains an error' message.
