    Unhappy Date Format

    Good day,

I am sure this has been asked and answered (my apologies). I am in a fix, I have information on excel and the date format is DMY and I have tried to reformat it to change to YMD and the dates DO NOT change. I have a lot of data and do not want to re capture all this.

    Please help.

    Hi
probably text looking like dates. Select your data then the Data tab - Text to columns - click Finish. Now you can format as you like

    Hi,

    I have tried that option:
Data ----Text to Columns-----DeLimit and so on and still nothing.

is it text? If so, perhaps highlight the column and do a find and replace, try each number like 1 for 1 and replace all and see if they change. If they do and you go through the sequence of 0 through 9 (if needed), then Pepe's suggestion should work. Just a thought.

Its actual dates that read like this 28/02/2014
when I try to change that format to be YMD to does not change to 2014/02/28 it remains the same.

    Re: Date Format

    The dates are text

    in F1
    =A1+0
    copy down the column

Reformat column F as YMD dates
    Copy column F
Paste values back over column A
    Delete column F

Now column A is in the format you want

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

    Re: Date Format

I selected column A, Data - Text to columns - Finish and text became date. Just needs to be formatted

    @ Special-K

Alternatively enter 0 in an empty cell and copy
Select Column A then Paste special - Add - Ok. Then format as needed
