Summing military time is not producing desired result in a specific cell

In my spreadsheet, I am trying to sum three military times (see attachment for reference).

The times are as follows: 22:03, 11:12, 09:01, which sums to a total of 42:16 (42 hours and 16 minutes).

However, when using the =SUM function, Excel derives a total amounting to 18:16 which I suspect is a conversion of some sort from the correct value of 42:16.

Please note that in the 'Format cells...' tab under 'Custom' I have selected hh:mm for all corresponding cells (and throughout the rest of the spreadsheet as well). Interestingly, all of the values I am trying to sum were derived using the same =SUM function which for some reason is giving me trouble in just this one cell.

If the sum result is over 24 hours, it converts to DAYS + Time
So 42:16 is 1 day, plus a time value of 18:16
Cell format of hh:mm only captures the TIME value, not the number of days.

Try formatting the cell as [hh]:mm
