I forgot how to produce a formula to multiply a number in a cell-- sorry I am so green.

I need to get 80% of a number in a cell ---for example if cell "A1" has "$23,343.26" in it and I want cell "A2" to be 80% of cell "A1" what formula do I put in the formula line of "A2" ----I tried "=A1(.80)" but that gets me an error message. Sorry for such a simplistic question. ---jaes.

    Here!

    =A1*80%

    or

    =A1*.8
    Cheers!

Besides the examples Deep Dave gave, if you are going to continually use that same percentage in multiple formulas you can enter it into a cell and then reference that cell in your formulas. You then can change the one cell and all your formulas will reflect that change. By typing the $ in the cell reference I can type the formula once and copy it down and the reference to the cell with the percentage will stay the same while the other cell in the formula will change.
