Don't have empty cell count as 0 value??

I have a row of numbers where I want to create an "if" statement that if the cell is 0, then display "zero balance". However, with blank cells in the row, it displays "zero balance" for those as well. How can I get it to not recognize a blank cell and not display "zero balance"? Currently using formula: =if(d133=0, "zero balance", "- -")
