Showing an equation result in cell

I need to solve a quite simple equation, but have not been able to (which is a bit embarrassing, I think the solution is probably quite simple). In a cell, in this case J6, I want Excel to show the value for x in this equation: x*F6-x=100. How do I do that?

    Re: Solving a simple equation

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 7)

You can delete this thread. I understand that moderating a forum, especially one with this many users, is not an easy task. But the solution above seems a bit counter-productive if your purpose is to help n00bs like me. I have already tried 8 different search terms on Google but was not able to find the solution, that is why I registered here, so to ask me to again somehow guess an appropriate google search for my problem is a bit of a catch 22. If I knew one I wouldn't be asking for help. :-)

I can see that earlier posts with very similar titles got help (for instance http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...-in-excel.html), so I guess I was just unlucky to catch you on the wrong day. No hard feelings from here, I wish you all the best, and will try to find a solution for my problem at another site.

Seriously? youre throwing your toys out of the pram simply because someone legitimately asked you to reword your title?

He wasnt telling you to search google for the solution, you just had to reword the title to make it more descriptive such as:
    Resolving an equation using Formulas
    Outputting an equation result
    etc
    etc

Good luck though on finding your answer elsewhere.

I am really sorry if my post seemed offensive, that was not my purpose at all. I tried to give some constructive criticism, but I guess I failed in doing so. Now when I read your examples I can see that they are way better than mine, but I could honestly not come up with better ones than the two I tried to write before. Again sorry if I offended anyone, I think this is a great forum and that you moderators/experienced users do a heck of job.

I'm siding with the OP here, there was a discussion a couple of weeks back regarding the wording of the forum rules and associated moderation requests.

    http://www.excelforum.com/the-water-...forcement.html

There are some good points made in the thread, Tony Valko's comment on post #14 is one that I find quite interesting, along with posts #18 and #19. (might as well highlight my own contribution at post #31 while I'm at it)

Well, I can quote Sheldon from Big Bang Theory S03E04:

Raj: Yes, for you. I do, however, have a few conditions... [conditions here]

Sheldon: I’m impressed, Raj. Those are very cogent and reasonable conditions.

    Raj: Thank you.

    Sheldon: I reject them all.

Raj: Then you leave me no choice. I accept the job.

So you're saying you accepted the position of forum moderator because you disagree with the rules that you choose to enforce?

No, I'm saying that demands that imply rules should be changed might have some reasonable explanations but as long as they standing I will insist on them.
But let's not spam users thread. There is plenty of them where you can continue this discussion.
