countif is not working

I have another question regarding the countif is not working in my spreadsheet. It worked with Excel 2007 but is there a changed in Excel 2013?

I've sorted it out.

It was not working because the cell that I've used was in text format instead of general format, duh

It works at my end ... however I noticed upon upload that the formula was as if entered as text. It that the issue?

It applied Data / Text to columns and it calculated correctly.

Thanks guys for replying. I believe when data from our database were transferred to Excel, it entered as text.
