    Data Validation for Date Format

    Hello Guys,

I have a question. I need users to enter dates into a spreadsheet in particular Date Format Spell month e.g. June 21 1965. I would have to use data validation as It needs to throw an error when input is not correct.
Can anyone help me on this, please?

    Thanks,
    Durga Prasad G

Re: Data Validation for Date Format

You should be able to handle the formatting by just formatting the cells for the date format you desire. To ensure the user actually enters a date, highlight the column where the dates will be entered. Select Data Validation. In the "Allow" box select "Date". In the "Data" box select "Greater Than". In the "Start Date" field, enter some date in the past. Click "OK".

If you want a specific warning message to show up if the wrong data is entered, you can customize the warning message on the Error Alert tab of the Data Validation box.

Awesome it worked - I never knew it was that simple!

One more quick question. I want to make sure the End Date is not lesser than Start Date. How do I do this? Can this be done? Please suggest

Highlight the End Date column. Select Data Validation. In the "Allow" box select "Date". In the "Data" box select Greater Than or equal to". In the Start Date filed enter the reference to row 1 of the Start Date Column. For example, if the Start Date column is column H enter =H1 in the Start Date field of the Data Validation box.
