Formula Cell - show contributing cells

    Hi,

Im running Excel 2016 - i have a whopping spreadsheet of numbers and each row has a formula cell calculating the total of 4 cells from that row.

How do i get Excel, that when i click the formula cell to highlight the 4 contributuing cells to that formula total?

At the moment i have to actually click the formula cell and then click into the text box at the top where the formula is typed to get it to highlight the cells - not ideal.

Clicking Show Formulas doesnt work as i need to actually see the formula cell total value and not just the formula itself.

Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks in advance

Can you post the actual formula that you are using, as it might be possible to use conditional formatting to highlight the cells that contribute to the formula. Better still, it would help if you attached a sample Excel workbook.

To do this, click on Go Advanced (below the Edit Window) while you are composing a reply, then scroll down to and click on Manage Attachments and the Upload window will open. Click on Browse and navigate to (and double-click) the file icon that you want to attach, then click on Upload and Close this Window to return to the Edit window. When you have finished composing your post, click on Submit Post.

    Hi Pete,

Please see a snippet of data in an atteched doc.

So for eg: id like to be able to click cell V2 which will then highlight cells J2,K2,N2,O2 which make up the total of cell V2.

    Just a simple sum formula.

    Thanks

I thought your formula might have been a conditional sum formula, and we could have used those conditions in CF.

As it is, I think you would need a macro solution to do what you want, but I don't know how you would go about that - perhaps you should re-post in the VBA forum.
