Using blanks as a criteria in a SUMIF formula

    Morning all,

I'm struggling to incorporate blank cells as a criteria in a SUMIF formula. I've attached an example of the data I'm working with.

    Thanks in advance,

    Try this:

    =SUMIF($A$2:$A$21,"",$B$2:$B$21)

    Incorporated like this:

    =IF(D2="",SUMIF($A$2:$A$21,"",$B$2:$B$21),SUMIF($A$2:$A$21,D2,$B$2:$B$21))

Re: Using blanks as a criteria in a SUMIF formula

Cheers AliGW. The problem I've got is this criteria forms part of a larger SUMIFS formula so If I were to use this approach the formula would be quite extensive. Not a problem though I'll use SUMPRODUCT instead. I was just confused as to why it wasn't working.

    Thanks,

    Snook

You're welcome! It seems like one of Excel's little peculiarities.

    You might also consider

    =SUMIF($A$2:$A$21,D2&"",$B$2:$B$21)
