Count number of times particular text appears in worksheet

Hi There
my data looks like this, each line is a single cell.

U001
U001,U200,U220,U805
U220,U628
U004,U626,U627
A090,U003,U114,U220,U621
U001,U003,U200,U220
U001,U003,U200,U220
U001,U003,U200,U220
U001,U200,U220
A090,U003,U004,U113,U220,U620
U432
U432
A090,U003,U113,U200,U220,U620


I need to be able to count the number of times that each code appears in the entire worksheet. I have tried to separate the codes into individual cells but I think it is just too big. The worksheet is 59k long and when separate the columns go out to AT (at least I think thats the largest) separating also brings up the issue of blank cells. I have tried COUNTIF on separate and combined data to no avail,

Any ideas?

is there a way I can use the formula Where U001 is a cell reference instead of having to type a pile of formulas?
