Formula for moving total over previous 12 months

I need a formula to calculate a total dollar amount from the most recent date in a list to the nearest date that is 12 months earlier so that I have a moving total of the previous 12 month period.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I'm having difficulty understanding your formula. I have the dates in column A and the dollar amounts in column D. There are 3 variables in your formula - A, C, and I so how would I apply that formula in my situation?
