    Calculate Win/Loss Streak & Last x games

I'm trying to figure out how to calculate the Win/Loss streaks as well as the W-L-OTL results of the last x games (variable by entering number in column)

I hope the spreadsheet will be able to show what I'm looking for as I'm unable to explain it very clearly.

For instance, I've highlighted a team and the areas that I need some help with the formulas.

    Hey Ziggy,

I needed to rearrange your data on sheet1 to sheet2. See if you can follow what I did in the attached.

Noted for next time, thank you.

I should have clarified what I was expecting in the "Streak" column.
That column should show a result like:

    Boston Bruins L2
    Buffalo Sabres W3
    Detroit Red Wings W1

    And so on...

Re: Calculate Win/Loss Streak & Last x games

    Hey Ziggy,

I hope my answer above works for you. If you change your data to look like my Sheet2, the problem is easier. When you have Home and Away teams on the same line it is almost impossible to solve.

The reason we don't like double posts on other sites is that we might spend a half hour solving your problem and then find out someone else did it on another site. I think AliGW is pointing you to the rule that saves us problem solvers time.

Marvin - I think you might need to reattach your file, as I am not able to open it. Thanks!

    Hi Ziggy,

Thanks for putting my workbook up again. Did you get the answer you needed from it? I'm not sure I understood the "last x games" part of the question but it is past my bed time so PM me if you need more help with this question.

Calculating the "last x games" (10, 20, or any other number) I managed to figure out.
I just need to find the winning/losing streaks in the format like post #5

    Hi MarvinP
I've been looking at the work you did to see if I could understand it and adapt it. So far I've been unsuccessful.

On the other hand, 6 of the 12 posts here are from the so called "Moderator". 4 of which have been deleted.

What this world could do without unnecessary interference, one can only wonder.

It's not like I'm asking how to perfect nuclear fission to build the ultimate weapon to rule over all other weapons and cease the world.
It's a simple calculation in a spreadsheet, nothing more, nothing less. But for some reason, people think they need to control that also.

    Updates here...

    People trying to control others...

Each forum is independent and has no business trying to enforce the rules of another...

I will start naming names if they don't leave this be.

Re: Calculate Win/Loss Streak & Last x games

This is not a fight I intend to pursue any further, however:

    https://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel-...x-games-3.html

I did NOT mention any names, the forum moderator did!

These are all free forums, with members offering their help for free, the least all members can do is respect that, and try to not waste members time by posting - and maybe getting an answer - on other forums, while members here are working to assist you. No-one is saying you cannot post elsewhere, jst that you let all forums concerned, know that you have posted elsewhere. Im sure you can see the reason behind that?
Yes, I understand that. Look at the total number of posts I have; not many at all on either forum at this point, so obviously a NOOBIE. A simple private note explaining or pointing out a rule would've sufficed. But deliberately publicly pointing out my mistake, freezing a thread and deleting posts all seems just a little over-kill for a minor error on my part. And now I'm being treated like I'm responsible for everything that's gone wrong in life.

Before you condemn me to death, ask yourselves how many times more than one person has replied to your questions (in the same thread and in the same forum) without knowing that someone else was working on it or whether you yourself had resolved the issue yourself?
Do you really think that all those people sit and condemn you for not informing them that others were working on the same issues, or that you already had the answer? NO.

Surely, at some point in time, one person will come up with one possible solution, then minutes, hours or even days later, someone else with come up with another possible solution to your question.

Does that mean you intentionally mislead them or deliberately wasted everyone's time? NO. It means nothing of the sort at all.

I, myself, would look at the solutions others had come up with and try to learn from them as alternate approaches.

It must be nice knowing that I'm the only one who makes mistakes.

My other thread has been closed, so I expect this one to be also.

I confess, I neglected to post a link, nothing more, nothing less. As such, all privileges shall be revoked.

I didn't do anything intentionally and the punishment for it is way over-kill in my opinion.

But you can judge for yourself.

    Hi

Ok if this is your first mistake?

Next time do one forum a time say up to 72 hours? No answer then close thread before you start other website forum?
That best advice, otherwise we just wasting our time trying to help if there more than 2 or more website forum?

Give me 15 minutes to see the file
To help you by my post? it would be nice to click on to say "Thank you".
If you are happy with a solution to your problem?

Re: Calculate Win/Loss Streak & Last x games

    I'll save you the trouble.
I don't want any help on this.

Clearly, certain people have no leniency for new people.

I cannot pursue a direction that will only lead to dismay for myself.

I made a minor mistake, yet the punishment is, well, you can see if it was justified.

I'm not defending myself when unnecessary.

15 posts and most of them defending the fact I made a mistake.

I'd close this thread, but due to my inexperience with forums, I don't even know how to do that.

Moderator, please close thread, Thank you!

Moderator, please close thread, Thank you!
At the OP's request, and for NO OTHER REASON, I have closed this thread.

For clarification: had the OP simply provided the link to the cross post when I first asked for it, he could have saved himself lot of trouble. I even sent a PM to the OP with a link to his cross post on the other forum so all he had to do was copy and paste it into this thread. Once he did eventually, albeit extremely reluctantly, provide that link, the public posts asking him to do so were removed by me. The only further comment on this issue has been from him.

It must be nice knowing that I'm the only one who makes mistakes.
You aren't, and anyone not complying with the forum's rules is asked to comply, just as you were, either by me or another senior member of the forum. The vast majority of new members who find themselves in your position comply without any fuss at all, then receive the plentiful help and support there is available to them here.

I confess, I neglected to post a link, nothing more, nothing less. As such, all privileges shall be revoked.
To be clear: none of your privileges as a member here have been revoked. It is your choice to turn your back on the help you could have received here.
