Question Sorting by month date - Again - dd.mm.yy format, only sorts by day.

    Evening all,
I've a client who has entered all his time sheet data in columns:
    Date - Ref - Description - Time - Miles - etc...
Each row is a new timesheet data entry

"Someone" sorted and saved the spreadsheet, some time ago - and it had only sorted by day, so 21.02.16 is next to 21.10.16, etc..
The date is UK dd.mm.yy - they need it such that it is sorted by "actual" date: 21.02.16 is next to 22.02.16, 23.02.16, etc..

Anyone have a clue as to how this might be achieved?

I searched the threads and web for a couple of hours and have found no solution - can any of the amazing Excel people here help?

    Many thanks

Hi Greenstair and welcome to the forum,

This doesn't sound too hard, if we could see some sample data. I need to see if the "dates" are text or real numbers and how they are formatted. If you can figure out how to attach a sample file, there is a good chance we can give a quick answer.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

    Hi Marvin,
Many thanks - sorry for the delay - my notification settings weren't set, so hadn't seen your post...
Attached is the offending article. I'm trying to sort by Column A "Date" - as usual, it sorts by day and ignores the month and year (although the year isn't really important, as the client creates a new tab for each year and as such, they have historically simply added a row for each entry and never sorted). What I think happened is that an office admin sorted by client to find something, and then saved and this wasn't picked up - hence they're in a pickle and crying :-/

    Select column A

the Data==>Text-to-Columns==> skip to Step 3, select Date (DMY or MDY) ==>Finish

Dates will be Excel dates which can be sorted.
