Use a formula to find a Number in a table and then obtain its Row name

    HI

I have a standard table with week number 1 to 52 across the top and a series of labels for the rows in column A.

I need a formula that will find the column (1-52) Look through the list of number entries underneath that column (1 or possible 2 entries, the rest blank cells) Then I want the label for that row on which the number is associated with?

I can do part of this but am not able to do it all together. Can Anyone Help??

Can I suggest you upload what you have and manually add the result you expect. Tell us which are the result cells and which are original data.

Given that you may have two entries in a column how does Excel know which of the two label cells in column A to pick?

How do I upload a file? - Not sure if this Attach above will work?

The highlights column is what I have worked on but not getting far. This will be my Product Made column when I have it sorted.

Highlighted column did not come through. My attempted code starts at C40.

Re: Use a formula to find a Number in a table and then obtain its Row name

Column B33 onwards needs to pick up the numbers in the table based on the week number. Column C33 onwards needs to bring in the Row label for the number in the table.

Not sure if it is easy to do for just 1 number in the table, but my mind boggles when it gets to trying to accommodate 2 numbers in the same week.

Ultimately I am trying to schedule product in the week, based on Tonnage ( the number in the table) Most of the time we only produce 1 range. Occasionally 2 within a week. Open to suggestion on how best to do this if there is another way??

Yes, but the workbook is wanting to connect to an external source and I don't know the password.

    Hi Richard,

Strange I did not put any password protection on it. Never mind I have loaded it to a drop box and the link for this is below: Let me know if you still cant access it? Thanks

Re: Use a formula to find a Number in a table and then obtain its Row name

I believe that the following modification to the formula that populates cells C40 and down will solve the issue of getting the row label based on the values in columns A and B:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Hi JetMc

That works a treat. Thank you for the formula. Not sure it is possible, but is there a way to identify two row labels if there is two sets of numbers in the column?

    Thanks

Re: Use a formula to find a Number in a table and then obtain its Row name

The following array entered formula* will identify two (or more) numbers in column B and therefore their associated row labels in column C, however I haven't figured out how to make it work with much of what you have in the rest of the table as evidenced by rows 61 and 62:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

*Array entered formulas are activated by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will get an error or a clearly incorrect answer.
I am including what I have thought of so far in the hopes that it will provide a spark of inspiration for someone.
Note: Column I will probably need resizing when in order to see values.
Let us know if you have any questions.
