Question Hard to Explain: Date - Profit lookup & Summary

    Good Afternoon,
Question. I have an excel spreadsheet that I use to track all my social media posts and data. I am trying to build a summary tab now with Month & Net Profit. Basically, with my hundreds of posts that I put out per month, I wish to have this new tab scan my DATE column and PROFIT column to produce a Currency Figure for JAN, FEB, etc...

I am unsure if this is possible,
    Suggestions?

    techxcellent welcome to the forum.

You often get more and faster response if you upload a sample Excel (*.xlsx) file instead of screen shots. It saves having to recreate what you already have.

If you are unfamiliar with how to do this:

To attach a file to your post,
    • click “Go Advanced” (next to Post Quick Reply – bottom right),
    • scroll down until you see “Manage Attachments”, click that,
    • click “Browse”.
    • select your file(s)
    • click “Upload”
    • click “Close window”
    • click “Submit Reply”
    • be sure to desensitize the data

The file name will appear at the bottom of your reply.

Re: Hard to Explain: Date - Profit lookup & Summary

    Try

    J4=SUMPRODUCT((Table5[PROFIT])*(TEXT(Table5[DATE],"MMM")=I4))

    and drag down

    Thank you, shukla.ankur281190

The suggestion didn't work. When I attached =Sum to the beginning, it didn't work, just stated #NAME?

I have attached v2 of the document under the Social Media Data tab.

Re: Hard to Explain: Date - Profit lookup & Summary

You have putted =SumG3=SUMPRODUCT((Table5[PROFIT])*(TEXT(Table5[DATE],"DD.MM.YYYY")=B3)) instead of =SUMPRODUCT((Table5[PROFIT])*(TEXT(Table5[DATE],"DD.MM.YYYY")=B3))

    Check the attached file.

Re: Hard to Explain: Date - Profit lookup & Summary

    Thank you,

I ran a test and entered in the following date: 01.07.2012, however the 1 dollar profit was listed in FEB and not in July.

    Am I missing something?

    Document attached.

Re: Hard to Explain: Date - Profit lookup & Summary

I do apologize, I didn't know about the pressing F2 part.

Is this going to be always required?

Also, when I do press F2 on J3 (labelled NET PROFIT), nothing happens at all.

Update: I have tried the F2 and enter on all the other cell's as well JAN to DEC. Still, nothing.

Re: Hard to Explain: Date - Profit lookup & Summary

Calculation option was marked manual instead automatically.

Go to the formula tab ->>> under Calculation ->>> click on Calculation option and check marked on Automatic.

If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.
