Formula that depicts Tabs with same cell number

I have a list of names in one tab. I need a total in one of the columns which comes from another tab with the person's name. Is there a formula I can use so I don't have to build the formual each time. Current formula for each person. ='doe, jane'!E5.
I don't know if there is a formula that goes to the next tab verses the next column or row. Just thought I would ask.

    Thank you.

Sounds like an "INDIRECT" formula would be useful here. Here is the setup assuming the list of names starts in cell A2 (i.e. A2 contains "doe, jane") and goes down from there. If that's not right, just change the reference.

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Just drag the formula down and it will fill in for the other names.

If you have the list of sheet names in column A, say, starting in A2, then you could have this formula in B2:

    =INDIRECT("'"&A2&"'!e5")

then you can copy this down as far as you need to.

    Hope this helps.

This does work, but not with the way I put the names in my list. The comma between the last and first name wouldn't allow that formula to work. I will just change
the name format to first and last with no comma.
    Thank you for your help!!

My apologizes. It was the spelling difference between my list and the name I gave each tab. The comma was not an issue at all.

    Thank you.
