    Horse racing?

I'm trying to simulate a horse race with three actual dice that I will roll. 6 horses and 11 lengths . Just say when I roll the dice I get 3, 5 and 2. I want to put a marker in the corresponding place (An X will be in row 3 and column 3, etc). I will roll the dice again until one of the horses reaches the 11 column.

I was trying to do this with the IF command but I'm not having any luck. Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Horse racing?

There are some holes in your description.

When you roll the three dice, how do you interpret the numbers? You have six horses and three dice. What tells you when a horse moves up, and how do you know which horse?

"(An X will be in row 3 and column 3, etc)" doesn't mean much to me. It seems to have nothing to do with 3, 5, 2.

What do you want Excel to do for you? Seems like you would just type the X's in. Do you need some kind of automated solution where you enter the three dice numbers into Excel on each roll and it does the rest?

    Re: Horse racing?

Jeff, Thank you for responding. I’ll try to explain better. I did make a mistake initially.

There are 6 horses, one in each row. Every time the 3 dices are rolled, the horse in the position corresponding to the numbers shown on the dice moves one place over from where they are. So if I roll a 3, 2, 5, the horses in row 3, 2, and 5 move one place. The first horse to reach the eleventh place wins. I will manually roll the dice and enter those values. When I do this I want Excel to put a mark in the cell on the same row as each horse. Every time that horse’s number is rolled and I enter it, a new mark is shown and the old mark disappears. I eventually will replace the marks with an image of a horse.
Thank you so much for your help!

    Re: Horse racing?

Here is one quick solution. You enter each set of rolls where indicated under Rolls and the X's update automatically.

If you want a more automated solution where you only enter one roll, then hit a button to update, then it needs macros. If you want to use an image of a horse (and not just a character that looks like a horse), you are probably going to need macros.
