Question Color coding data validation drop list

Hi, I am experience some problem. This is a scheduling issue.
I have a list of patients, mostly names and which are color coded through conditional format association based on the below value
I also have a list of genders (Male, Female and Transgender) - which are color coded also with condition format (Blue/Pink/Yellow) in respect.

I have created a drop list using data validation containing the patients' name.

Here is the problem I am experiencing. Is there any method in which I can select the patients' name from the drop list and the color are automatically associated to the name?

Example: James , automatically turn blue when select from drop down because the association with the gender male which is conditioned to highlight blue?

I browse around the forum and google with no avail.

I can't seem to attach file so I put it in my google drive, hopefully someone can assist me with the issue.

    Hi, welcome to the forum.
As far as I know it is not possible to color dropdown lists.
Once you have selected a name and this name is displayed in the worksheet then of course you can select the corresponding conditional format color using VLOOKUP() to search for the name in the table that has all the names that returns the gender, and based upon this the conditional format
I hope my explanation helps you.

You can and you should because some members will not access file-sharing sites.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Try this
    Sheet1 has a small list

Sheet 2 has the dropdown list and Column D is hidden, here the results of the VLOOKUP and the conditional format condition

Thank you, on a seperate note, I am trying to add a data validation drop down list with offset function. But the list of patient name does not shrink after I already place them into an appointment time. Can you help me with this problem?

    I'm using the following function.

    =OFFSET($S2,,,COUNTA($S2:$S40)) in the data validation.
