    Using a Named Table Reference in Conditional Formatting

    Hello,

    I have a named table named "TBIS" which has a column named "Source". I'm attempting to format the table so that when a new entry is input which has the word "Adjustment" as the "Source" column, the entire row of that entry turns blue. I have been able to do it using the following conditions:

    Format values where this formula is true
    =INDIRECT("E"&ROW())="Adjustment"

    Applies to
    =TBIS

    The problem using this method is that it looks for column e, rather than the "Source" column (which happen to be the same column). I want it to reference the "Source" column, as the column may change locations, so I tried replacing the E in the formula above with the below formula, but it returns an error.

    SUBSTITUTE(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN(TBIS[Source]),4),1,"")

    Is there any way to have the formula look for the word "Adjustment" in the "Source" column and format the entire line blue?

    Thanks!

    Re: Using a Named Table Reference in Conditional Formatting

    Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

    Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.
