    optimising formulas

    Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of this ..... http://analystcave.com/excel-optimiz...cel-optimizer/

I'm cautious about downloading such things

My objective is to analyse & hopefully simplify the many (Index .. Match..Match) 2-D lookups (I have thousands, they work fine, but are messy)

    Thanks KK

    Re: optimising formulas

That's the sort of site I close as soon as it appears!

You might just as well make the most of the membership here: post queries about the formulae you are using and see if anyone can help. having said this, if you have no performance issues, and it's just to do with aesthetics, it begs the question "why bother"?

    Re: optimising formulas

I broadly agree, but it's not just ethics, it's more to do with readability. These are formulas I created many months ago, and when I come back to them, perhaps to modify or expand, it takes awhile to understand them.

I suspect it's more to do with formatting so that the named ranges are easier to identify. I'll work on it. Thanks for the Input. KK

    Re: optimising formulas

Yes, I'm sure they are all ethically fine, but that wasn't what I was suggesting.

One way of making formulae easier to follow is to enter breaks in the formula using the ALT key so that the formula window is easier to read. I tend to make notes whenever I use a new formula so that I can go back and check things when I come back to them after a while.
