=#VALUE! When re-opening document

HI there,

I have had this problem a couple times - and I am finally asking help!

I have a spreadsheet that has a couple formulas in it, I save and close like usual, but when I open it up again it replaces the formula with =#VALUE!

The spreadsheet has macros and formulas in other places, but for some reason this formula decides not to save?

Any help would be great Thanks!

What is the formula? Is it always the same type of formula?
It would be best if you could upload the file so we can examine it for ourselves.
Make sure there is enough data to demonstrate your need but not so much that the file is too big (if you have 10,000 rows of data, you probably don't need to leave them all in, for example).
Remember to remove any confidential information or, if a cell needs data in it to work, overwrite it with made-up data / nonsense.
Click on Go Advanced under the reply box and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to attach a file.

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Thanks for the reply, I would rather not upload the document as just about everything in it is sensitive material, but I can paste the code here and see if that helps.

First thing that occurs to me is the file format. You have 10 nested IFs in that formula (if I counted right). If the file is saved as .xls (Excel 97-2003 format - or the equivalent for a Mac) then that can only deal with seven nested IFs, so you'll get an error.

That could very well be the problem. A quick way around that would be to create a small table containing the codes and words, then use vlookup
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
