Referencing an Individual Cell in a Closed Workbook Excel 2010

I am attempting to reference a single cell not a SUM, etc. from a closed workbook. Every time I attempt a formula such as below, it will work while the file is open however once I close both files and go to reopen the file that includes this formula I receive and error message that removes the reference and leaves only the last value in the cell. I’ve done some extensive googling on various forums and tutorial sites and have yet to find a solution to accomplish this without VBA.

Is there a formula that will allow me to reference only a specific cell I a closed workbook and not lose this data/automatically update after I have closed and reopened my file without removing the reference?

It doesn't appear there is anything wrong with the formula at a glance. This should work.

What is the error message you get, verbatim?

Did you manually type the entire reference or with both files have you clicked the cell in the other file to create it?

I received the following error:

“Excel found unreadable content in ‘Book1.xlsx”. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes”

When I click ‘Yes’ I receive this….

Repairs to ‘Book1.xlsx’ pop-up – Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content:
Removed Records: Formula from /xl/worksheets/shet1.xml part
Removed Records: Formula from xl/calcchain.xml part (calculation properties)
