Unhappy Return Data that Satisfies Multiple Range Criteria

    Hi,

I'm trying to find the correct commission value given achieved sales amount and number of clients reached.
The correct commission is determined by checking different sales ranges against a range of client number.
VLOOKUP seems to work with specific unique data and I can't get it to work because my data of sales and clients have to be checked against multiple bracketed ranges. I've attached a table to illustrate my problem. I would really really appreciate help and thank anyone in advance who can assist me on this.

    Regards,
    Eve

Re: Return Data that Satisfies Multiple Range Criteria

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Return Data that Satisfies Multiple Range Criteria

    My bad!

I've attached an Excel Table but in case I've totally fumbled that, here's the data. Thanks so much!

    COMMISSION TABLE

    NUMBER OF CLIENTS
    SALES RANGE < 100 100 - 129 130 UP
    UP TO 150,000.00 - - -
    150,001.00 170,000.00 500.00 1,000.00 1,500.00
    170,001.00 190,000.00 1,000.00 1,500.00 2,000.00
    190,001.00 220,000.00 1,500.00 2,000.00 2,500.00
    220,001.00 250,000.00 2,000.00 2,500.00 3,000.00
    250,001.00 280,000.00 2,500.00 3,000.00 3,500.00
    280,001.00 320,000.00 3,000.00 3,500.00 4,000.00
    320,001.00 up 3,500.00 4,000.00 4,500.00

    Example: If Sales 185,000.00 Known
    And Clients 115 Known
Then Commission 1,500.00 What is the formula to get this?

    Again, thank you!

Re: Return Data that Satisfies Multiple Range Criteria

I think your suggested answer is incorrect for 115 clients - it should be the middle rate, surely?
