in Cell a1 i have 50,000 A2 40000 A3 -35000 in column B2 i show an increase from A1 - A2 of 10000, B3 is looking @ A2 40000 & A3 -35000 should be a difference of 5000 in B3 but adds it instead of subtracts the negative number

Try
=ABS(A1)-ABS(A2)
It adds because minus a minus = plus mathematically
40000 - (-35000)= 40000+35000 =75000
This assumes you always ignore the sign
i.e 40000-50000 = 5000 (not -5000)

Not sure what you are trying to achieve. 50,000 less 40,000 is 10,000. 40,000 less -35,000 is a difference of 75,000, not 5,000.

i get a neg # with this formula in Column b i want a positive # even when subtracting 2 negatives

Try
=ABS(ABS(A2)-ABS(A3))
which is nonsensical
A2-A3 is a decrease (your heading says increase)
