Question How to Assign an alias to a record and use it to match in a different column

    Hello,

I have never used excel extensively before but I have to now and I was wondering if anyone can help me with my concern.

    1. I have a column from an application called X and the data in it is the following:

    Country code Description

    AUD AUSTRALIA

    2. In the other application the column shows

    AU AUSTRALIA

    3. This is exactly the same but if I match AUD to AU, excel will say not match
    4. How do I tell excel that AUD is equal to AU for it to tell me that it is match.

I was wondering if I can assign an alias like a data dictionary for it to use a reference that if it sees AUD it is equivalent to AU and it should come as a match. Can I extend the reference as well say

AU = AUD, BUD, CUD etc?

    Thanks in advance

Maybe do a search for just 2 characters, instead of 3? problem with that, is if you have different 3-char codes, that have the same 2-chars
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Seems, U is the common word you have. You can use a wild card character like * asterisk mark *U*.
