If Statement Compair across pages (Total novice trying my best)

    Hello MS people,
I need a bit of help with a formula I'm trying to solve for work but I am not exactly an expert in Excel. (IsuckatExcel)

I have a list of several thousand files that need to be analyzed to determine which files can be removed from our backlog.

On the first page of my spreadsheet I have managed to get my list of files that need to be sorted but they still have their extension at the end of them so I'm trying to only actually look at the first eight characters in the column rather than the entire file name.

    They are names like

    ABC-0009blahblah.pdf
    GEF-0003blahblah.pdf
    ....

The second and third sheets in my workbook have the values that represent open files that need to be removed from Sheet 1 without any extension information.

    ABC-0087
    GEF-0034
    ...

In the end I need a formula that will read IF the first 8 values in ColumnA on Sheet1 exist in ColumnA in Sheets2 or 3 do not copy to Sheet 4.
That way the newly created Sheet 4 would only display Values from Sheet1 that do not exist on Sheets 2 and 3.

I'm terribly sorry for bothering everyone but I would appreciate any help!

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Very similar to mine
    In B2 copy down
    Formula: copy to clipboard

filter on B = "Copy" ... and copy to sheet 4
or sort on column B and all rows to be copied are next to each other

    Wow! That worked wonderfully!

Both codes functioned exactly as I had hoped. Thank you both so much for helping me.
