# Count value in one cell based on values in another cell

1. ## Count value in one cell based on values in another cell

Hi guys, here's my question.

How can I count cells in Column B, if Column A2:a594 equals "X". The count function does not allow me to do this, the formula I'd like is count(b2:594 if(a2:594=G4)). The formula is count the range in column b, if the range in column A equals cell G4.

Any help? Its all text, so no will the sum feature work?

Thanks

Use COUNTIFS:

=COUNTIFS(\$B\$2:\$B\$594,"<>",\$B\$2:\$B\$594,G4)

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

Hi guys, thanks! Normally I would attach a sample workbook, but it was a fairly straightforward Q and Ali's response worked perfect. Thanks for being so quick!
