Averageif Help

Hello, I've followed this page for awhile and can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I'm looking for some assistance on a formula:

AVERAGEIF(Preschedule!Q:S,A3,Preschedule!W:W)

The range of cells I'm looking up is the Q:S range and A3 is the cell I'm looking to find the average for in W:W. The problem is once i drop down the formula into other cells it doesn't work if the data is in columns R or S. Only works for Q. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Try this ...

=AVERAGE(IF((Q1:Q1000=A3)+(R1:R1000=A3)+(S1:S1000=A3),IF(W1:W1000<>"",W1:W1000)))

Enter with Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
