Linking to separate workbooks to auto update

Is it possible to link to totally separate workbooks so that if you update one, the other updates automatically?

I have attached 2 examples of workbooks

So, can I enter a value into cell D6 on the Parts example worksheet and tell excel to enter the same amount in cell D6 in the Clin Tracking example? If so, How would I do that?

    Any help is much appreciated.

How to create a link to another workbook.

Open both workbooks in the same instance of Excel (unless you go out of your way, you will most likely open all workbooks in the same instance of Excel).

Select the destination cell. This is the cell you want to link to. Type in an equal sign. Go to the source workbook, and select the cell you want to link from. The destination cell will now display whatever is in the source cell, whether the source workbook is open or not.

Linked cells can be dragged or copied and pasted just like any other formulas.

However, if you change the name of the source workbook or move it, the link will be invalid.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Thank you so much!!! It worked. I can't get it to copy and pasted down that whole column though. It is not changing the reference cell like I expected so it is literally copying the exact formula and not changing "D" to "E". Is there a trick to that?

Unless you have absolute references like $D$4 it should change the reference cell relative to where it's being copied.

It does have the absolute which automatically was created when I followed the guidelines you gave me to link them. How do I change it?

I do apologize. I removed the $ and all is well. Thank you again.

I forgot that when you link like that it makes absolute references.
