    World Cup standings

    Hello,

I need a little guidance in what formulas to work with
This is probably a easy solve for you guys

So, In one sheet I have the results for the world cup matches and in another sheet i've got the results that a few colleagues of mine have filled in.
I would like to know how to create a table standing with the columns, Match winner and match result.

    How do I achieve that?

    Best regards,
    an excel newbie

Attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

    Re: World Cup standings

    I've now attached the workbook.
On the sheet "Leaderboard" you see the actual results and the league standing between co-workers.
On the shee "Competitors" you can see the results they predicted.

For the league table i'm think of two columns, if they pick the right winner in the game they receive 3 points and if they predict the result
    they gain another 5 points.

    is this doable?

It's doable, but the layout of your workbook does not make it easy. You have designed it to look good, making data analysis much more fiddly to do.

    How is it done then?
And what in the design makes it more fiddly?

    Best regards,

    Re: World Cup standings

When you collate data, you should really do so in normalised format, which means one record (row of data) per item.

If it were me, I would populate the grids that you have from normalised data tables.

I am very sorry, but I really don't have the time to provide you with a solution right now (it would take me probably two hours or so to build and test the formulae you'd need). Maybe someone else who can do it faster will be able to help.
