    Count max number of sequentially filled and empty cells

    Hi all, I've got two columns, one with dates and the other which I mark cells with an "N" if an event occurs on a particular day, and leave blank otherwise. I want a formula which returns the longest run of N's, as well as empty values. I did some Googling online and, not surprisingly, this question has been asked many times, and so I managed to find many threads proposing the following formula:

    However, it doesn't work. It just returns the total number of N's in my column. Am I missing something?

    Note that these are array formulas. As such, the formula without the curly brackets should be entered, and confirmed with CTRL, SHIFT and ENTER. If done correctly, Excel will display with curly brackets..
