Conditional Formatting row borders, eliminate Inside Borders within row

    Hello,

I've written a conditional formatting rule that places a border around a row when the word "lunch" is typed into any cell in that row. However, each row consists of 3 cells and I want to remove the inside borders, i.e. the borders dividing the 3 cells within the row and have it just be one square box around the row itself. Excel does not seem to offer this as an option in Conditional Formatting. Does anyone have a workaround?

    Thanks!

In the border formatting options, if you deselect the left and right borders, it'll leave you with just the top and bottom borders on the row. This could be a workaround if you don't mind not having the left and right borders on the edges of the row.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I need the left and right borders on the edge, unfortunately.

If it is the same three cells, say Bn, Cn and Dn on each row, then it would seem:
the rule for column B could be =COUNTIFS($B2:$D2,"lunch")>=1 and the formatting would have top, left and bottom edges,
the same rule could be used for column C and the formatting would have top and bottom edges,
the same rule could be used for column D and the formatting would have top, right and bottom edges.
