    Will Conditional Formatting Do This?

I have set up an Excel file to store/analyse some data in my school and want it to do more! I'm using Excel 2016 by the way.

I have columns where I can record a child's targets using for codes B, W, A and GD in 3 different subject areas (therefore 3 cells side by side), these are also conditional formatted to fill with a colour depending on the code that is entered.

I now want the cell to the right of the preceding cells to automatically fill with a colour depending on which codes have been inputted. E.g. if i have entered A, A and A in the 3 preceding cells I want the next cell (to the right) to highlight green. Or it the 3 cells are filled with another combination of codes, e.g. GD, A and GD, the cell to the right will fill green.

Is this kind of thing possible to achieve?

    Thank you

Check out conditional formatting. Here's a couple of links to get you started.

Hi wayneski1oo. Welcome to the forum.

You need a thread title change:

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 6)

    Good deal. You're welcome.

That said it appears we are going to need an Excel workbook upload that is representative of what have to work with and what you are trying to achieve.

It gives context to the explanation, saves us typing and guessing wrong. You often get more/faster response if you do so.

If you are unfamiliar with how to do this (BTW the paperclip icon does not work) use this method.

To attach a file to your post: (Please no pics or screenshots ... saves retyping data.),
    • be sure to desensitize the data
    • click “Go Advanced” (next to Post Quick Reply – bottom right),
    • scroll down until you see “Manage Attachments”, click that,
    • click “Browse”.
    • select your file(s)
    • click “Upload”
    • click “Close window”
    • click “Submit Reply”

The file name will appear at the bottom of your reply.
