    Data Cleansing - Reversed names

Hi, I have a large spreadsheet of client details exported from a database that I'm trying to sort out duplicates in atm using Excel.
Any suggestions for checking where people have put in names backwards e.g. I might be in as Angie Wilson and Wilson Angie - I know I can check against other fields i.e. same dob / address etc, but wondered if there was a forumula (or maybe some VBA) I could use instead.

    Hi Angie and welcome

You could use text to columns to split the name into two columns and then use COUNTIFS to check.

I'll put together a little example and post it in a moment.

EDIT: Now attached. It's quick and dirty and not quite as sophisticated as the fuzzy matching that Sam mentions, but it might be enough to do what you need.

have you looked into the fuzzy lookup addin by Microsoft? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=15011
    it's description:
It can be used to identify fuzzy duplicate rows within a single table or to fuzzy join similar rows between two different tables. The matching is robust to a wide variety of errors including spelling mistakes, abbreviations, synonyms and added/missing data. For instance, it might detect that the rows “Mr. Andrew Hill”, “Hill, Andrew R.” and “Andy Hill” all refer to the same underlying entity, returning a similarity score along with each match.

Thanks - I'll have a look at both of those.
